Invisalign & What to Expect

by Best Natural Smile on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 9:31 AM

If you're one of the many adults discovering the magic of orthodontic treatment, we congratulate you. A new smile is an investment in your best asset, and you'll feel the benefits radiate through every area of your personal and professional life for years to come. That said, we understand that getting dental care done as an adult can be intimidating, and it's often difficult to know what to expect. To help with the process, this blog will give you a few things you can expect before, during, and after your treatment.

Don't Worry About Pain

Many people worry that Invisalign will be a painful experience, but for almost all patients, this isn't a major concern. It's common to feel some discomfort for a few days to a week after each appointment, but this is usually mild, can be treated with over the counter painkillers, and fades quickly. Invisalign is also significantly comfortable in comparison to braces.

Oral Hygiene

During treatment, you'll need to be extra vigilant about oral hygiene. You'll need to brush your teeth at least four times daily, once after each meal and once before bed. You'll also have to floss once a day using a floss threader, which we'll provide detailed instructions for. We also recommend using a fluoridated oral rinse, which we can provide recommendations and instructions for.

Retention

Once finish your Invisalign treatment, we know you'll be excited - but you're not out of the woods yet! We'll fit you with a retainer, which you'll need to wear diligently. With conscientious use and careful oral hygiene, your new smile will last you the rest of your life.
